Our medical oncology team plays a major role in your cancer care by managing your treatment plans and therapies, and monitoring and evaluating your progress. They will consult with you on your options and any side effects you may experience during chemotherapy treatments and will offer medical guidance, helping you make decisions along the way.

Our oncologists also treat cancers of the female organs, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancer. With a unique depth of experience and access to the latest treatment options, we can develop and implement the treatment plan that fits your needs.

H e m a t o l o g y
Our hematology team has extensive expertise in treating disorders relating to blood and blood-forming organs and tissues, both for cancer and non-cancer patients.

Chemotherapy treats cancer with drugs that interfere with cancer cell growth and reproduction. These cancer-fighting drugs target and attack cancerous cells that may have spread to other parts of the body. Our medical oncologists and oncology nurses work closely with oncology-trained admixture technicians to manage dosages and monitor patient progress as well as side effects, to ensure the best treatment plans to fight your specific disease.

Laboratory testing is a key component of the detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Our on-site laboratory, which is physician owned and operated, provides quick results for many routine laboratory tests, helping physicians prescribe or adjust your treatment plan, as needed, without unnecessary delays (on-site lab services subject to insurance plan rules).

Understanding your disease and having the latest information will help you feel more comfortable making choices about your care. Our cancer care team has extensive knowledge of cancer-related challenges and vast resources for information about the various types of cancers and their treatments. We will help connect you with the servicesand programs you need—many of which are offered within our cancer center.

All of our patients and their families are invited to explore the resources of our Patient Education Computer, located in the waiting room of our office, which is specifically designed to provide cancer information that can be searched and printed out while you are visiting our office.

The financial aspect of dealing with cancer can be complex and overwhelming. Our financial counselors are here to help answer your questions about the cost of treatment and, on your behalf, handle insurance inquiries, verifications and claims processing. For patients whose insurance coverage is inadequate or for those patients who do not have insurance, financial counselors can help identify assistance programs that may offer help in meeting financial obligations. Additionally, we can connect you to services and resources in your community, such as disability, supplemental Medi-Cal programs and medication assistance programs.

For patients who may reach a point in their illness where further attempts at active therapy are either not possible or not advisable, we offer palliative care to maximize quality of life through pain control and aggressive symptom management. Our physicians and nurses have extensive experience in this area. Hospice care is an important part of palliative care and, when appropriate, is carefully coordinated by a patient's physicians, nurses, hospice nurses, medical directors, social workers, clergy (if desired) and volunteers. Hospice focuses on maintaining the comfort and quality of life for patients up to the time of death and providing support for the family during and after a patient's illness. Patients in the greater Sacramento area have access to a number of hospice programs, depending on where they live, and our staff is very comfortable in working with the hospice team members to achieve these goals.
